American Hellenic Council Honors Zack Space, George Argyros and Dimitris Caramitsos

On Saturday, March 21, 2009, the American Hellenic Council of California (AHC), a political non-profit organization which promotes Greek-American interests, hosted its 34th Annual Honors Dinner Dance at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
Every year, AHC celebrates the achievements of dedicated political and community leaders who have made major contributions to Hellenic causes. This year, with former Governor of Massachusetts Michael Dukakis as the event’s MC, the Council recognized the accomplishments of three honorees.His Excellency Ambassador George L. Argyros was recognized with the Aristeio Award for Excellence for his outstanding social contributions and distinguished accomplishments in the fields of philanthropy, business and diplomacy.Serving his last year as the Consul General of Greece in Los Angeles, His Excellency AmbassadorDimitris Caramitsos-Tziras was presented with the Kapodistrias Award for his outstanding and dedicated service to the Greek-American community. Also, Rep. Zack Space (US Congress, OH-18) was presented with the Pericles Award for commitment to issues of principle and justice.

In addition to these distinguished individuals, many other dignitaries and politicians attended the event, including Rep. Ed Royce (US Congress, CA-40), Rep. Loretta Sanchez (US Congress, CA-47), Dr. Vernon Smith (Nobel Prize Winner in Economics), Ms. Anna Vissi (Greek Singer Celebrity) and AHC Founder Mr. Aris Anagnos.
After the award presentation live Greek music lead most of the attendees to the dance floor for Greek Dancing.
