About the Play
The play that was originally written by Euripides in Athens around 400 B.C. portrays the plight of women and children following the defeat of Troy by the Greek Armies at the Trojan War as the remaining families of the defeated Trojans are about to be taken away as slaves. It brings alive the timeless message that there are no winners in any war, and that even through the darkest night and despair, there is always hope and catharsis.
