This fact has imprinted itself in my work, my language, and my psyche. In my first play, “Reminiscence of “The Ghetto & Other Things That Raized Me,” I dedicate an entire section illustrating the difference between being white and being Greek What she really means is the difference between being an Anglo American and being ethnic- Greek Americans are white and are clearly perceived to be white by both Hispanics and African Americans who clearly are not seen as white by the dominant culture. Any ethnic group in the U.S. had its contrasts with the dominant Anglo culture, so to reduce it down to one ethnic group's differences is ethnomyopic.... I am first generation Greek American. I hae never been there, however I had lived in Greece twice and visited numerous islands & mainland on three occasions. My father isfrom Pireaus & my mom is American born Greek. Her mother was from Mytilini, and her maiden name was Polixany Garganos. I am not sure where her father was from, but his name was Michael Patris. My sole purpose for this visit is to see if I could possibly locate any livng relatives for my mothers closure who just turned 86. Ay assistance from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Term Greek supersedes these recent terms and will surely be around long after they are gone from the historical scene.
