Hugh Jackman hosted a star-studded evening celebrating the love affair between Broadway and Hollywood. Three well-known Greek Americans contributed to the event: Jim Gianopulos, Melina Kanakarides and Patricia Kara, each one in their own way.
Accompanied by a live orchestra under the command of Hollywood Bowl’s John Mauceri’s baton, a breathtaking array of singers from film and stage musicals showcased the songs that have married both coasts for decades.
Katie Holmes along with a surprise appearance from Tom Cruise who was part of her performance, Shirley Maclaine, James Marsden, Joel Grey, Hector Elizondo were among some of the actors that participated. The Greek-American actress of CSI gave an outstanding singing performance which gave a pleasing surprise to her audience.
Patricia Kara, another Greek-American who rocked the red carpet scoring interviews with everybody that was there said “Melina is a great singer, she is really talented!”
“I host the red carpet every year. I interview everybody for Channel 22, the channel for the Motion Picture and Television Fund. MP&TF’s mission is to “take care of our own”. It’s mission is very important”, said Kara.
This year’s event brought the leaders of the entertainment community together once again in an intimate setting in Los Angeles for an evening of dining and entertainment to benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
The event was held at the Fox studios and was chaired by President and CEO of 20th Century Fox Jim Gianopoulos and his wife, Ann.
Past attendees, supporters and performers include Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, Helen Mirren, Kristen Bell, Jennifer Hudson, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Reiner, Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas and many more.
