Jennifer Lopez Decides to Celebrate Birthday in Occupied Cyprus Creating Political Turmoil

According to Turkish media reports, Jennifer Lopez will be paid $3 Million dollars to appear at the opening of the “Cratos” hotel in Northern Cyprus.
The resort, which is located in the Turkey occupied part of the island, will officially open on July 20 and host an exclusive Gala Night on July 24. The Gala Night will have a special series of exclusive events. Jennifer Lopez, her husband Mark Anthony, and their twin children Emme Maribel and ‘Max’ David will attend the event.

A very special birthday party will be organized on the night for Jennifer Lopez who will celebrate her 41st year. Cratos Premium has prepared a birthday party full of surprises for Jennifer Lopez – JLO, Mark Anthony, and special guest artists coming from America.

One of the surprises is the fashion show by Roberto Cavalli. World famous fashion designer Roberto Cavalli will visit Cratos Premium as a guest of Fashion TV and will organize a surprising fashion show for JLO.

Political Turmoil

Political action groups urged Lopez not to visit Turkish-occupied Cyprus and thereby endorse the illegal Turkish-military-invasion and illegal Turkish-military occupation of Cyprus.

The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) wrote in a statement that “the Turkish lobby is spending millions of dollars to also ensure that public relations specialists promote her visit and bring in Western reporters. Allegedly, even the “BBC” will be there for Lopez’s illegal visit. It is obvious that the human-rights-abusing Turkish government is using Jennifer Lopez in an attempt to purchase a false “normalcy” and false “legitimacy” for the bandit pseudo-state that is recognized by no-one but Turkey .”

The organization’s letter points out “it is especially pertinent that the Turkish lobby also chose July 20th 2010 as the date of her landing in Turkish-occupied Cyprus, a date that every Greek-Cypriot knows is the 36th year anniversary of Turkey’s illegal military-invasion of Cyprus that killed thousands of Greek-Cypriots, that forcibly displaced hundreds of thousands of Greek-Cypriots from their homeland, and also resulted in the rape of 800 Greek-Cypriot women.”

UPDATE

There are rumors that Jennifer Lopez may reconsider visiting Northern Cyprus after the reaction of groups and individuals that critisized her decision.

Did all of this started with the Greeks terrorists trying to unify Cyprus with the military dictator ran Greece. But obviously the murders carried out by the greeks don’t count.
They started the whole mess and are now whining about the consequences.

cyprus is not under occupation. sooner or later you will have to recognize and accept turkish republic of norther cyprus

I worked with JLO back in 1999-2000 during a campaign to fight world hunger. She was fascinated about the Greek culture and always asked questions. We spent hours talking about the illegal invasion and occupation of Cyprus and expressed her disgust on numerous occasions about Turkey’s actions and policies.

It is so sad for me to read this.

  • Mario

What is the problem here? She is visiting “TRNC” like so many Greek Cypriots, Greeks, EU Citizens etc. My Greek friend you had the chance to sort out the problem back in 2004 and you said no. It is very much expected that “TRNC” will be a semi recognized state going forward.
Yes I agree with the other reader who said Greek Cypriots committed crimes as well. It is not exactly what learned in school, that Turkey one day came and captured 37% of the island. We as Greeks made huge mistakes from 1955 onwards. Now I think it is too late to sort it out.

Does Jennifer Lopez know that Turkey illegally invaded Cyprus in 1974? would she go to a nazi concentration camp to perform for the SS soldiers? Well going to the occupatied areas of Greek Cyprus, yes all of Cyprus is Greek, is the same as performing for SS soldiers at a concentration camp. I curse her and her family if she does something so low….. Cyprus is not a pawn for Turkey. Cyprus doesn’t belong to Turkey and will never belong to her. Turkish people no matter how illertate they are should fight against their barbaric government and force them to leave this Greek island once and for all. Their children and their children will be burden with the blood of innocent Greeks just as Anatolian Turks have the blood of Armenians, Greeks, Georgians, Assyrians and Kurds on their hands. God damn Jennifer for going against Greeks. God damn her and her family for accepting even one penny of the enslaved Turkish Cypriots. Damn her. No wonder her music is in the toliet.

  • Idil

    Dear Mario and Khan,
Thank you for your comments leading to the truth in Cyprus history. Leaving out some details in history which might not work for the Greek policies and interests in Cyprus does not mean that is actually the truth. As Khan said this had started by the Greeks to employ their ‘Megali Idea’ ENOSIS and poor Turkish Cypriots were started to be killed by Greeks. Within the obligations of the agreement between the two mainlands (Turkey and Greece), to sustain the peace in Cyprus (1960 government), Turkey had to intervene to protect the Turkish Cypriots. The violation towards Turkish Cypriots started back in 1960s even previously, on the other hand Turkey intervened this violence in 1974. So what happened in between these years? Did Turkey start all? Was Turkey in Cyprus al this time? Were all Turkish and Greek Cypriots living happily and peacefully until 1974?
Jennifer Lopez is a superstar, and so is Cyprus as a lovely paradise-like island, and we deserve to host her and her family with such a wonderful party she’ll have in her birthday. The TRNC-against fanatic Greek Cypriots or Greeks, please stop being jealous about this great event and you are more than welcome to join in :)

I hope Jennifer Lopez enjoys herself in the Turkish Northern Republic of Cyprus! :-) It is beautiful and unspoilt!! and the people are warm and friendly.

Thankyou Turkey for saving us from EOKA!!!

Maybe some of you need to read “The Genocide Files” by Harry Scott Gibbons!

I know there is great hostility towards Turks but one must look closer to home before pointing the finger.

  • Steven

As far as I know, the Greeks started to kill the cypriot turks on the island. So there is nothing wrong if Jennifer Lopez goes there. I wish here an awesome celebration :)

  • Alex

Occupied??? So why is she going there? Northern Cyprus is actually better place than Greek part because Turkish people are much friendlier than Greeks.. Attacking on Turkish people make them more popular that Turkey ranked as the 7th most visited country in the world in 2009.. People don’t believe to all these lies and they know how friendly and great Turkish people are.. J.Lo is a smart woman that she will visit the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

  • Michael

To all the Turks on this thread, I did not expect any less from you. As Turks, you are born pathetic and live that way. Every time a Greek mentions the poor man (I forgot his name) who climbed the pole trying to take the Turkish flag down and was shot and killed for it, instead of apologizing for it and admitting it was barbaric and illegal, Turks just shrug it off and say he deserved it. This is an indication that Turks are born evil.

To my Greek brothers, there’s no point trying to convince them because they think what they wanna think. Bottomline, only one country recognizes the illegal “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, and that is Turkey itself, which says what they have accomplished: nothing. And because of this, they will never be a part of the EU.

  • uprooted

We do not expect “Attila” to admit their crimes but Turkey committed unprecedented crimes in Cyprus in 1974 and that is the truth whether the turks accept it or not. As far as they are concerned they do not admit the Armenian Genocide, the Greek Genocide or the Assyrian one committed in the beginning of the last century acknowledged by the World famous Scholars on Genocides and which so many countries have recognised as Genocide of the worst kind. They even have a notorious article 301 that forbids any Turk from accusing Turkey of any crime! And these people want to become part of Europe!!!
Whoever is interested to learn about the Turkish invasion and the crimes against the Greek Cypriots look up the British Sun of 5 August 1974,first page titled “BARBARIANS – The Sun says SHAME ON THEM” and the “Insight Exclusive” titled Turks atrocities what secret report reveals, in the Sunday Times of London 23 January 1977 detailing the Secret Council of Europe Report finding Turkey guilty of violating seven articles of th European convention on Human rights with her atrocities during the July and August 1974 illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus, with rape and looting.
All the rest is ruthless Turkish propaganda promoted by Turkey and financed for brain washing by rich Turkish financiers – their aim the full turkification of the island. A glance at Davudoglou’s book regarding Turkish policy and the alteria motive of Turkish policy is crystal clear: ” Even if there was not even one Turk in Cyprus Turkey ought to creat a reason to claim the island”.

  • Eva

Northern Cyprus is under occupation of the Turkish army for over 35 years – that is an irrefutable fact.
It is morally wrong for Jennifer Lopez to go the occupied norther part of Cyprus to celebrate her birthday and be the guest of honour. Doubly so because July 20th is the day of the occupation – talk about rubbing more salt in the wound. If a just and fair solution is to be found, this kind of action is not advisable.
JLO’s advisers have got it wrong this time.

  • Georgia Maratheftis

Ms. Lopez, it is unconscionable for anyone who identifies themselves as an ambassador of human rights to allow themselves to be bought. The politics, history and reality of the Republic of Cyprus speaks for itself. We saw Turkish barbarism just days ago on the Mavi Marmara — the Turks cannot even conduct a humanitarian mission with any degree of decorum. Front and center were the Grey Wolves with their knives and steel pipes. The only ship that incurred violence was the one carrying the Turks. Not at all surprising. The Turks, so eager to aid their brethren in Gaza, while at the same time forcibly and illegally occupying Cyprus. It was, and is, an illegal invasion and occupation by 40,000 members of the Turkish military machine. The rapes and murders of Greek-Cypriots are recognized atrocities committed by the Turks. Ms. Lopez knows the history, we wait to see if she can be bought.

  • Sfoggari

Muslims of Cyprus or (Turks of Cyprus) are doubly occupied, militarily and mentally. Those who could see what was happening left Cyprus, if they could afford it. Most of those who stayed behind either do not dare to speak out or believed the propaganda of Ankara and his gaulaiter Denktash.
And Turkey did invade ILLEGALLY, despite what Davutoglu says, and YES the invaders did rape women and killed civilians. Forced demographic change, ethnic cleansing, genocide have been and are part and parcel of the Turkish states since the Ottoman times.
It is a pity that artists or “artists” turn a blind eye to these truths; 3 million dollars is, of course, not a small price for someones soul …or is it butt?
It is a bigger pity that people come up with statements like “Thank you Turkey for saving us from EOKA!!!” whether Turks or Greeks …I suggest that you study a bit of history before you adopt this kind of slogans.

The book is bilingual (Greek and English), can be downloaded by visiting http://www.freedomjustice.com.cy and describes exactly WHAT Turks are and WHAT they did in Cyprus in 1974 (killing, rape, torture, looting)…

In 1974, of course, you were only 5 years old… HOW could you possibly know! But NOW you are supposed to be a matured person and you SHOULD know.

    Noel,
I strongly urge you to read what Panos Ioannides recommends.
What you refer to as Turkish Cypriot refugees to the OCCUPIED areas were not force to leave. Nobody invaded what you probably call “South Cyprus”. They either chose to do so or were forced by TMT and the British. FYI at least half of the Turkish Cypriots, those who could afford it, chose to emigrate to other countries rather than live under the rule of Turkey’s gauliters.
btw a good account of the British you can find here http://www.expeltheuk.com

Poufiktra and others who are so simple to be political in such an innocent event,
WE learned Cyprus history at schools just like you did, but in a more humanistic way which wouldn’t teach us to be evil like you are, or to be occupied with hatereth, barbarism and monarchy like you are. We learned the truth in all sides, as personally, I attended too many bi-communal activities and meet nice Greek people, not like you, FANATICS, of course. Have you ever heard about the word PEACE? Yes for sure, but I’m sure you don’t know the meaning, because you have to have peace in you before reflecting it to around you.. You, and people like you are burden, are disease in this life avoiding PEACE in the world. We can’t get anywhere with you if you carry on behaving like this. I’m pure-blood Cypriot, but I feel ashamed of this when I read such words from a Cypriot like you.
You are jealous of everything about us, you are scared. You are blind to see and admit the truth about Cyprus, even today you want to realize what you want to do in the past. So that is the pure proof you your Megali Idea. We don’t need you, we don’t need Turkey either if she takes her hand away from us. People like you made us feel that we belong to nowhere! Therefore, we are going to stay as we are as Turkish Cypriots and you won’t be able to assimilate us into you sick thoughts and fanatism.
I recommend you to read Cyprus history which is not written by the fanatic greeks, so that you can gain some insights towards the reality.
Don’t be jealous, and join us to have fun on the 20-24th July in the TRNC, with all my peaceful, humanistic invitation.

  • Ioannis Shekersavvas – refugee from occupied Kyrenia

Time spent in the occupied areas of Cyprus is equivalent to beeing an accomplice to the war crimes committed by Turkey against the Greek idigenouw population before they were ethnically cleansed.

  • Cypriots not Slaves

The Turks who come from Asia have been beating and terrorizing the Greek people for hundreds of years, enslaving and colonizing, raping and scapegoating Greeks forever. Most of modern day Turkey is stolen land which once belonged to Christian Byzantine Empire which was always inhabited by Greek and Armenians, both of which have since been deliberately displaced by either genocide or forced out of modern day Turkey.

Anatolian peninsula is native land of Greek and Armenian people which was latter renamed Turkey after being colonized by Turkish hordes. Today little memory exist in the national conscious of Turks for the crimes they’ve brutally committed.

Cyprus which is a Greek island (always had been since ancient times) is Greek. Why do Turks want to keep stealing Greek land? They’ve been doing it for years, taking a little or a whole lot of land at a time. Turkish Cyprus is colonial vestige of the oppressive Ottoman/Turkish Empire.

  • ceyhun

    to everybody:
any reason can’t be right to kill people.. even if someone died before.. even if a war happened..
no one has the right to take down another nation’s national flag, and also Solomos didn’t have that right, too..
in 1960, in 1963, in 1974 there were no reason to kill anyone but some reasons made people to protect themselves, to protect own lives and this is a basic instict for everybody called “to live” and that’s why unfortunatelly so many people died at those days..
    to fanatics:
behave honestly and give the right to everybody to live, to enjoy, to sleep, to eat, etc in this world like you do! and look forward to live your life in peace.. this is the main point for everybody.. no union or seperation is needed. nobody can forget the past, and it is not necessary to forget it either.. but let the past be “past”. just live your life in peace, and let everybody live their lives in peace.

yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery.. today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present. so live your gift as a present’able life and create mysteries in your future for everybody’s wellness; not just for your own!

  • Turks are evil

The Turk bloggers who are posting here are liars and revisionists trying to whitewash the facts. Throughout its history, Turkey/Ottomans have abused/killed many people from numerous countries(Armenia for one). The facts are there; open your eyes to the truth. Turks are so jealous of Greeks that they must resort to stealing the Greeks’ achievements by killing them.

  • Socrates

It’s a big shame when Turks have to bribe Jennifer Lopez to come to the illegal Turkish military occupied Cyprus zone that is not a internationally recognized entity. The rule of law in occupied Cyprus is the 40,000 Turkish troops. 500 Christian churches have been destroyed since 1974, and some coverted to Muslim mosques. Turks killed thousands of Greek Cypriot civilians in the 1974 Turkish invasion. Turks forced close to 180,000 Greek Cypriots out of their ancestral, indigeneous homes. Turks then forced demographic change by importing 80,000 Turkish Muslims from mainland Turkey who have no connections to Cyprus. Turks are rascists for refusing Greek Cypriots their properties and homes in the occupied north. Turks know nothing about human rights, democracy, or property rights. Turks will invade and steal Greek lands. Turkish law is enforced by the sword and gun.

  • jane

Lopez is not an idiot like some she is probably doing a stint at peace making and diplomatic negotiating, ever the humanitarian. Happy happy b’day Jennifer!

  • Christoph

As Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan once said of the Israelis, “You know well how to kill.”. Only he got it wrong, it’s TURKS who know well how to kill, murder, rape and steal. They’ve been doing it for centuries. J-Lo needs to know who’s interests she will be serving in ‘TRNC’, then she can make an informed choice.

  • idil

    Thank you Jane! :)

    The opposing parties,
If you say Cyprus is a whole, then how the hell it is illegal since you can freely enjoy yourself at the discos in Girne and do cheap shopping so forth whenever you wish?
    When you talk think first!
The other thing..you keep saying Turks are evil Turks are murderer..anything else? Are the Greeks angels coming down from the arms of God? Or you still believe in multi-Gods, sun god, sea-god etc.
In history, how did greeks conqurred the Anatolia and abouts? by kissing people on their cheeks and givin roses? or murdering people without any hesitation?
But I know its the Ottoman Empire’s Rule who’s guilty, who gave you the chance to choose your religion, and ethnic nationality, which proves that you belong to an unkown ethnic background. So you thought you are part of the Greek nationality cos they were powerful and could protect you. Because the Ottoman policiy was so humanistic, you thought you should separate yourself from others who are muslims (excluding the ones who chose to be Muslim).
We are all human beings after all, in history many nations and their representatives made mistakes for their own ego satisfaction, and it was the community who sacrificed, killed, separated, forced to do things. Why is this jealousy? Stop being so cruel, and close-minded..
Whatever you do, Jlo will come to TRNC, whether you accept this or not. Suppose that she didn’t, the world is now aware of the existence of the separation as North and South..so this is even adequate for us, believe me.

Some historical facts are not subject to willful manipulation for
honest people around the world of any persuasion:
    1) Cyprus has been a Greek island since Antiquity. Despite its various historical invaders it always has had a large Greek majority.
Before the 1974 turkish invasion the Greeks were 78% and the ‘Turks’
18% of the Cypriot population spread evenly across the Island.
(Turks are taught that the first human race & language has been turkish, therefore everyone unknowingly is a Turk, including the Greeks etc.Ataturk said to the British King that the word Kent is
turkish! Just like Qaddafi said that Shakespeare was an Arab Sheikh!)
2)EOKA was a Greek Cypriot guerrila against British Colonialism in
Cyprus in 1955-59, after the British refused the right of Cyprus to
    self-determination for strategic reasons.
    3) Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974 not to save Moslem-Turkish Cypriots
(half of them former Christian Cypriots converted to Islam after the
bloody Ottoman conquest of the Island in 1571 to avoid Poll Tax imposed only on non-Moslems and still speaking Greek as their own language in the 1960′s, but for geopolitical reasons.Davutoglou,
present Turkish Foreign Minister, has written that “Turkey would want
to control Cyprus even if not one Turkish Cypriot existed at all”.
3)The Greek Cypriot coup, instigated by USA in the Cold War, was an internal political affair among Greeks, directed against the strong Greek Cypriot Left, not against Turkish Cypriots, for NATO’s sake, and did not expect Turkey to use this as a pretext to invade and make ethnic cleansing of 1/3 of the Greek Cypriots from the 37% of the Island (in the North)accompanied by ruthless violence-tanks and
planes against half-armed Greek Cypriots unaided by too far and also
politically divided Greece(and cold blood executions of POWs and civilians, including old men, women and even children- a terror
inflicted out of misled fanatic hatred and the will to force them out
of the occupied part of Cyprus).
    4) i have been twice in Cyprus and 7 times in Turkey. The Turks
are really by 85% converts to Islam coming from 47 ethnicities, mostly
from Byzantine Greek-speaking Orthodox Christians of Asia Minor.
Most of them do not have a Turkish racial appearance, but very variable from very white to quite dark, they are easily taken for
Greeks or Arabs. Anyway about 25% are Kurds, some totally turkified,
some fighting for an autonomous or independent United Kurdistan (also
in Iraq, Syria & Iran). In my experience they tend to be honest,
straight people, but due to the Islamic tradition of obedience, the
Turkish influence of pride in conquering and subjecting other peoples, and their until recently wide peasant illiteracy, they have
an uncritical selfserving nationalistic and militaristic outlook quite out of place in the contemporary West European context.
5)Cyprus and Turkey are full of relics from their Ancient Greek and
Byzantine Christian past-ancient cities with theatres, agoras etc.,
Christian Churches in ruins or converted to mosques, including Agia
Sofia, the biggest building of the World for 1,000 yrs, now a museum.
Until 1922 2.2 million Greek Christians lived in Asia Minor and had
to live after the failed Greek attempt to incorporate them in the
Aegean region around Smyrna, in the process 600,000 of them falling
to Turkish massacres in reprisals. Of the Armenians of 1.8 millions,
1.5 mil were killed by the Turkish state in 1915.
Many names of modern Turkish cities still bear their historic greek
names in a corrupted turkish version: Smyrna bacame Ismir, Canstanti-
-noupolis Istanbul, Sevastia Sivas, Kerasous Giresun, Trapezous Trabzon, Sinopi Sinop, Panormos Bandirma, Kallipolis Gelibolu,Nikaea
Iznik, Nikomedia Izmit,Sparta Isparta, Antiocheia Antakya, Attalia
Antalya, Efesos Efes, Hallikarnassos Allikarnass, Amasia Amasya,
Kastamoni Kastamonu,Kaesaria Kayseri, even Asia Minor became Anadolu-Anatolia which means in greek ‘East’. Erzerum, deep in Anatolia, means literally “Land of the Romans” (Romans was the name of the
Byzantine Greeks who considered themselves as continuators of the
    Roman Empire in the East.
I rest here and let you make your own thoughts about the Cyprus
situation: Turkey,a militaristic country of 73 millions, controls
militarily the northern 37% of the Republic of Cyprus, a close-by mostly Greek-inhabited Island of 700,000 Greeks, 80,000 Turkish
Cypriots (another 80,000 have left for UK or even Australia AFTER
their “liberation” by the Turkish Army in 1974!) and 120,000 mainland
Turkish colonists as well as 40,000 Turkish occupying soldiers (there
are also small Armenian and Maronite communities, living freely in
the South and integrated amicably within the Greek Cypriot society).
Now you know the plain facts, you can make your own conclusions.
I dedicate this to my Turkish friends to learn some more History,
and to some Greek friends who in an well-meant but ill-learned attempt to rise above national hatreds tend to blame their own people
much more than the historical record would honestly allow.

THANKS TO JENNIFER LOPEZ FOR NOT VISITING KERYNIA,IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS WHICH IS OCCUPIED BY TURKS SINCE 1974.

UNDER THE SOIL OF KERYNIA AND MAYBE NEXT TO THIS HOTEL ARE STILL BURRIED MISSING PERSONS(CIVILIANS AND SOLDIERS WHO WERE HOSTAGES)BRUTALLY KILLED BY TURKISH ARMY BECAUSE TURKEY REFUSED FOR YEARS TO GIVE EVIDENCES FOR THESE MASSACRES FEARING OF THE REACTIONS INTERNATIONALLY.

IN OCCUPIED AREA THE 98% OF THE PROPERTIES AND EARTH BELONG TO GREEKCYPRIOTS AND ARE DEPRIVED OF THEM SINCE THEN BY BRUTAL TURKISH ARMY.

  • Nick

Have you ever heard the phrase divide and concour? This was all a set up by the English, American and Turkish government. The minoritiy of Turkish Cypriots are left overs from the Ottoman empire who once ruled over Cyprus and commited henous crimes back then also. Stealing Greek children and raising them as Turks to fight against Greeks not knowing their true origin. Not to mention many many other crimes, the land that they claim is legitimate was stolen from Greek cypriots from then, if Greeks did not pay taxes they would also steal land.

So of course there is a long history of crimes againsta Greeks but despite that Greek Cypriots got on well with the remaining Turkish Cypriots. The Greek Cypriots uncovered many seceret plans that the Turks have also wanted to invade the island so what do you expect the Cypriots to sit back and let this happen? so this lead to troubles with the minority, also the British set up situations to stir up the problems ( divide and concour ) – one officer admiting to the fact that some Greek Cypriots were captured and taken to a Tukish Cypriot village and told the local Turks falsely that they were caught trying to kill them which lead to them being murdered!

These are facts do you understand? THESE ARE FACTS true events there is no smoke witout fire but the Greek Cypriots have been short changed.
