Michael Gambon and Ethan Hawke for the “The Journey”

The Journey, an international film based on a true Greek story,  is currently in pre production. The crew is in Northern Greece scouting  locations. The film takes the us from 40s up until today’s world.

Actress/writer, Alexandra Lazaridis, who initiated the project says, “we all had to be brave to bring the project to this stage of development. So far we  have been able not to compromise artistically, and we are doing things according to our vision.”

Hellene Olympia Dukakis, as well as Fiona Shaw ( leading actress of the National theatre of England, My Left Foot), and legendary British actor Sir  Michael  Gambon (Harry Potter) have already enthusiastically signed on to the project . Ethan Hawke is currently in negotiation to be a part of the cast. The film is to be directed by Geek- Australina director Nadia Tass,  who recently won the Cinephile Award in Cannes for her last  film, Matching Jack.

The cabaret world in Athens of the 40s was particularly spectacular and full of charm. Although  under occupation, the people of Greece maintained their integrity, with a strong resistance movement. The film tells the story of a cabaret dancer who becomes the diva of the mid-war cabaret in Athens  and, after a huge awakening , joins the resistance, dedicating her life to  a new world– a world of freedom.

What happens when a modern woman, who is raised in New York, goes back to Greece and discovers the story of the character of the 40’s? What happens to the modern character when  a whole world of the past is revealed to her? And  what does she learn from this process?

Theses, the production company handling the project, established by Alexandra Lazaridis,  aims to start shooting in  February of 2012

The  Journey has distribution arrangements in Canada and Greece.  American distribution is being negotiated at the moment.
