jisxz-kellan-lutz-1162778079Renny Harlin’s take on Greek mythology with “Hercules 3D” has finally cast its male lead, and the role belongs to “Twilight” actor Kellan Lutz, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Harlin told the publication that “Hercules” will be Lutz’s “breakout role” and that the actor is “not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character,” saying he impressed him “with his passion and heart.”

The film will revolve around the love between Hercules and the mortal princess of Crete. Millennium is producing with a $70 million budget.

“Hercules 3D” is scheduled to begin shooting this May, and will release around the same time next summer as MGM and Paramount’s “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” which stars Dwayne Johnson.

Besides “Twilight,” Lutz has starred in the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and another Greek god based film, “Immortals.” He is also signed on to play the lead in the new “Tarzan” film.
