Melissa Jimenez Moves on to ‘The Voice’ Playoffs

The Voice - Season 6
Greek-Mexican singer Melissa Jimenez (l.) wins the round two battle to move on to the playoffs of “The Voice.”

Greek-Mexican singer Melissa Jimenez has won the second battle round on NBC’s “The Voice” to move on to the top 20 and compete in the series’ playoffs.

Jimenez performed against Music Box in last night’s battles. The two songstresses sang Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire,” with Jimenez coming out on top to advance to the playoffs as part of Team Usher.

Born in New York and currently a resident of New Jersey, Jimenez has become one of “The Voice” Season Six favorites. She impressed both Shakira and Usher at the blind auditions with another Alicia Keys song, “If I Ain’t Got You.” Picking Usher as her coach, she entered the first battle round performing the R&B hit, “Give It to Me Right,” in which she beat out contestant Brittnee Camelle.

With the playoffs underway, the coaches — Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher — each have five singers on their teams. They’ll narrow down the contestants to three before the live performances, which begin April 21.
