Nick Cassavetes’s ‘Kentucky Rhapsody’ Heads into Pre-Production

nick_cassavetesThe latest project from Greek-American filmmaker Nick Cassavetes has moved forward into pre-production, according to the development company’s website.

“Kentucky Rhapsody,” which Cassavetes wrote the adapted screenplay for from the Erin Chandler play “June Bug vs. Hurricane,” chronicles the real-life story of Kentucky Governor Albert “Happy” Chandler, who uprooted his family to Las Vegas in the 1970s.

The film was picked up for development by MoonQuake Films back in 2011. As a newly formed company, “Kentucky Rhapsody” was MoonQuake’s first acquisition.

“To launch our company with the acquisition of a script from such a distinguished writer as Nick Cassavetes is beyond what we could have imagined,” MoonQuake founder and CEO Jonathan Avigdori has said.

Cassavetes is also attached to direct. Casting has not been announced yet, though the film is scheduled to shoot in the Kentucky and Las Vegas areas.

Cassavetes recently helmed “The Other Woman,” a romantic comedy starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann that releases in theaters this week.
