‘Kyriakides’ Biopic May Have Found Its Star: Tom Hiddleston

HiddlestonKyriakidesA biopic on Greek athlete Stylianos “Stelios” Kyriakides could potentially star “Thor” actor Tom Hiddleston, according to recent reports.

In 2011, THR reported that Disney was developing the story about the famed Greek runner who competed in the 1936 Olympics. His career came to a standstill as a result of the Nazi occupation in Greece, and after fighting for the resistance, a weak Stylianos headed to the U.S. to run in the 1946 Boston Marathon. Frail looking, he was initially told he wouldn’t be able to compete after doctors worried he may not make it through the race.

Stylianos ran in the Boston Marathon that year, and upon crossing the finish line to victory, he proudly yelled, “For Greece!” He then toured the country to raise funds for Greek war-relief.

With Paris Latsis, Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray, and Terry Dougas on-board to produce, and rumors indicating that Hiddleston would play the lead role, the film could be moving forward soon, though there has been no official announcement on when the sports drama, currently titled “Kyriakides,” will head into production.

Hiddleston, who studied Ancient Greek while pursuing acting, speaks the language, and even showed off his skills in an interview with Greek outlet Cinemag. Known mostly for his role as Loki in the “Thor” movies, he is also an accomplished stage actor, and has performed in various plays, including the Greek tragedy “Electra” where he portrayed Orestes.
