Greek Producer Teams with Terry Gilliam on Short Film ‘Hallucinaut’

Gilliam (l.), Varouxakis (c.), Auber (r.)

Monty Python co-creator and director Terry Gilliam is set to present the fifteen-minute absurdist short film “Hallucinaut,” written and directed by his collaborator and Emmy-winning visual artist Daniel Auber. The film also has Greek producer Alexis Varouxakis attached.

Within the stylistic realm of executive producer Gilliam, whose credits include “12 Monkeys” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” “Hallucinaut” centers on Julio, a lovable hothead with addictive habits who is haunted by black cats, teetering ladders, and broken mirrors. He seeks advice from a psychedelic palm reader specializing in a nano-scientific approach to palmistry. With the help of a secret potion, Julio shrinks into his lifeline to alter his destiny.

Writer/director Daniel Auber developed his skills in Europe and the United States during 25 years of work in Special Effects, Visual Effects and Concept Design, working on films by Terry Gilliam, Wes Craven, the Wachowskis, Dario Argento and others. He won an Emmy Award for his work with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

Alexis Varouxakis founded Adrenaline Entertainment, a feature film and TV production company, in 2001. His feature producer credits include “Dark Hearts” and “Opa.” He was also a producer on “El Greco,” and most recently, the Paramhansa Yogananda biopic “The Answer.”

“Hallucinaut” is launching a crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter soon, with principal photography expected to begin in Arizona later this year.
