The lineup for South by Southwest (SXSW), the famous independent film and music festival, was announced today with the inclusion of some Greek names. The festival will take place in the indie artist hotspot of Austin, Texas, from March 13 to March 22.

Katie Cokinos, a Greek-American who previously worked as Managing Director of the Austin Film Society, as well as behind the scenes on “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” has written and directed her first feature film “I Dream Too Much.”

The film follows young college graduate Dora as she moves in to take care of her great aunt Vera while prepping for the next step in her academic career. Though the women don’t get along well at first, they later bond and affect each other quite deeply, as the film unfolds to tell a beautiful story of family and female hardships among three generations.

Another film premiering at SXSW, “The Petting Zoo,” is a collaboration between Greece, Germany and the US. It is billed as a story of “love, sex, and teen pregnancy in San Antonio, Texas,” and produced in part by Athina Rachel Tsangari. Tsangari is the principal producer of Athens-based Haos Film.
