Hank Azaria has just been cast in the new Bernie Madoff film, “The Wizard of Lies”, as Frank Dipascali, Madoff’s right-hand man in the Ponzi scheme that brought the millionaire to his knees.
Robert de Niro will be playing the role of Bernie Madoff, and Michelle Pfeiffer also has a lead role as Ruth Madoff, Madoff’s wife, in the film.
The movie will focus on how Madoff’s scheme started, how the fraud was discovered, and the lasting effects it has had on both Madoff’s victims and his family. Dipascali, Azaria’s character, was one of five Madoff employees to be convicted of fraud, though he died of cancer four months before his sentence could be carried out.
Azaria has shown wide range as an actor in both comedic and dramatic roles and has been working non-stop in Hollywod for over two decades. Though it is a little known fact, Hank Azaria’s family is almost all Greek, as 3 out of his 4 grandparents are all Sephardic Jews born and raised in Thessaloniki.
You can currently see him in recurring roles on “Ray Donovan”, and hear his voice work in “The Simpsons”.
