CEO of 20th Century Fox Film Jim Gianopulos was honored by popular entertainment publication “Variety” with an EmPOWerment Award, the first such award given out at the publication’s Power of Women Event.
The EmPOWerment Award is intended to recognize an individual in the entertainment industry who “empowers and creates opportunities for women to succeed in the entertainment business”. The event itself was first launched mostly in order to recognize influential and charitable women working in Hollywood.
Gianopulos is well-known for employing strong, smart women in top managerial positions at Fox, such as Stacey Snider, Emma Watts, Elizabeth Gabler, Vanessa Morrison, Nancy Utley, and Claudia Lewis.
The Power of Women event happens every two years in the entertainment capitals of New York and Los Angeles. Over 500 guests ranging from entertainment professionals to media insiders attend, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation always pledges to match Variety'” donations to each honoree’s charity.
Gianopulos will be the only male to receive an award at the event; Salma Hayek Pinault, Anna Kendrick, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey and Susan Wojcicki will be honored as Lifetime Impact Honorees at an October 9th luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons.
Since there has been great controversy surrounding the lack of significant roles both behind the scenes and in front of the camera for strong women in Hollywood, it is great to see Jim Gianopulos taking a stand and hiring qualified women right alongside men in the industry. Congratulations on his award!
