Zach Galifianakis’ ‘Masterminds’ Finally Gets Release Date

Galifianakis

The comedy “Masterminds” starring Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig of “Bridesmaids” fame has been on hold after Relativity Media’s bankruptcy, with development executives worrying about what would happen to the movie and if it would even be released for months now.

However, the studio has finally set a release date of September 30, 2016, ensuring that this crime caper comedy will be coming to audiences across the US fairly soon.

Director Jared Hess, best known for “Napoleon Dynamite”, directs Galifianakis and Wiig in a story where they played armored vehicle drivers and co-workers.

Galifianakis is simple, uncomplicated David Ghantt, bored with his daily routine, who developed a crush on his coworker Kelly Campbell, played by Wiig. Wiig comes up with an idea that drags both of them into a plan of action to rob $17 million in cash in one big heist, even though they have no idea what they are doing, and are soon double crossed and have to escape the police.

The best part about this fantastic-sounding action comedy is that it was actually inspired by true events!

Rounding out the cast are the hilarious Owen Wilson, who plays the head of the group of criminals that help the lead duo with their crime, and Jason Sudeikis, a hitman hired to go after Wiig’s and Galifianakis’ character.
