The Story of ‘The Flying Greek’ Comes to the Big Screen

Watch the trailer for “The Flying Greek” above to discover the story of a legendary Greek pilot in World War II, coming to cinemas near you soon.

Last month, legendary pilot Steve Pisanos passed away in his San Diego home at the age of 96, on June 6th. Pisanos became a hero during World War II after flying over 110 combat missions and developing a reputation as an ace pilot.

Though he was awarded by the US Army and his superiors with numerous distinctions, the honor and nickname that stuck most to Pisanos was that of “The Flying Greek”. Respect for the man ran deep, as even Walter Cronkite said about Pisanos “[The Flying Greek was] the single most interesting individual it was my privilege to meet during the entire Second World War.”

Pisanos immigrated to Greece before the start of World War II, and then risked his life in combat to help both countries he called home, the US and Greece. “The Flying Greek” is based on his captivating life story, as well as on his autobiography.

In order to translate the story to the big screen, screenwriter Mike Vizcarra has come on board the production by Speed & Angel Productions. Vizcarra is a former Navy Pilot, and therefore knows the intricacies of combat and war better than most screenwriters in Hollywood.

“The Flying Greek” will be released in 2017, with a tentative release date of November 10.
