Zoe Kazan Opens Up About Anorexia Struggles

ZoeKazan

Zoe Kazan opened up about the struggles she faced with anorexia when she was a young 19-year old by writing an essay in “The New York Times” about her experiences.

The actress was very candid about both the causes of her disease and the long, difficult process she went through to get through it.

“The causes for my eating disorder ran along the usual lines: depression, an inability to express my rage, a desire to exert control, a desire to feel less, a desire to have my body express the things my voice could not”, penned Kazan in the Times.

She described how she was living on under 500 calories a day for a long time, and how her boyfriend’s love, support and acceptance helped her get through her sickness, in addition to weekly therapy sessions.

Kazan makes sure to emphasize that learning to deal with food in a healthy way again didn’t happen overnight – it took “years to get [her] brain back”.

Many Hollywood stars have opened up about their struggles with body image issues and eating disorders in the past few years, partly in order to expose the pressures women sometimes deal with at a young age regarding their looks, especially in Hollywood, and partly to encourage other young girls to seek help if they have such problems.

We hope Zoe Kazan’s words reach people who may need such help.
