The Netflix show “Girlboss”, based on the life and career of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, premiered in Los Angeles today on April 17.
Executive producer and A-lister Charlize Theron had this to say about the show she helped bring to life: “I love the idea that we should encourage girls to not feel, at 19, that they’re too young to chase their dreams.”
Amoruso’s character, according to the entrepreneur herself, has been somewhat dramatized – some of her traits are consistent with Amoruso’s real-life persona, while others have been altered. Britt Robertson plays Amoruso in the show.
The premiere and show come at a strange time for Amoruso’s company, as Nasty Gal recently declared bankruptcy and was bought out by another retailer. However, Amoruso’s “Girlboss” brand and best-selling book continue to thrive, despite her original company going under.
“Girlboss” premieres on Netflix on April 21.
