Tom Hanks to Play Iconic Mr. Rogers in ‘You Are My Friend’

Tom Hanks has been cast as beloved children’s TV host Mr. Rogers in the new biopic, “You Are My Friend”.

The movie follows the friendship of Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After Junod was assigned to write a profile on the TV icon, his life was transformed.

Rogers’ show, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”, aired on PBS from 1968 to 2001.

Producers Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf said, “Now more than ever, we all need a re-introduction to Fred Rogers’ message of uncompromising love and kindness between all living things.”

The picture will be directed by Marielle Heller, who helmed “Diary of a Teenage Girl”. The script is by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

Tom Hanks is the ideal actor to play the kind-hearted, optimistic Mr. Rogers. as Hannah Minghella, president of TriStar Pictures said, “This is the perfect alchemy of talent coming together at the perfect time to remind us all of the transformative power of kindness and respect to heal and to unite.”
