Tina Fey Honored With Comedy Excellence Award at WGA Ceremony

Tina Fey, never one to shy away from controversial or political issues, referenced Hollywood’s sexual harassment at the 70th Annual WGA Awards.

On February 11, the Writers Guild Awards chose to Award Tina Fey and Robert Carlock the Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence. The writing pair, who frequently collaborate on projects, first met on “Saturday Night Live”. They then went on to develop the award-winning “30 Rock”.

During her acceptance speech, Fey made several jokes about the sexual harassment scandal gripping Hollywood and the horrible behavior of many powerful men in the industry. She said of her writing partner, “If you have a meeting with Robert, when you get there he will never be just getting out of the shower…That is just how low the bar is now. We never made anyone who worked for us look at our genitals.”

“30 Rock” actors Tracy Morgan and Rachel Dratch were on hand to present the awards to Fey and Carlock.

Carlock praised Tina in his acceptance speech as well, stating, “Tina Fey should be on a postage stamp and not just because that would mean she’s dead….I can’t believe how lucky I am to use her goodwill to write nonsense and my stupid ideas. She’s the one that gets attacked every time.”

The two WGA awards show ceremonies, hosted in LA and New York, occurred concurrently. See the full acceptance speeches in the video above.
