Kelly Clarkson Covers ‘American Woman’ for Alicia Silverstone and Mena Suvari Series

Kelly Clarkson covered the classic rock song “American Woman” for a new TV series featuring Alicia Silverstone and Mena Suvari.

The song is a perfect match for the show, which is itself titled “American Woman”. Set in the 1970s against the backdrop of the women’s liberation movement, the series follows Bonnie (Silverstone), a single woman struggling to raise her two children after leaving her husband.

“American Woman” is loosely based on the childhood of Kyle Richards, of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” fame.

Being a top female recording artist and powerful woman herself (with equally powerful vocal chords), Clarkson was the perfect choice to record the show’s theme song. As she puts it, “there are all these things that we love and we felt we wanted to represent American Woman and the whole lyric of it…the strength and the boldness and the powerfulness I feel like American women exude.”

The show premieres on the Paramount Network on June 7 at 10 PM ET. You can watch a sample of Clarkson’s version of “American Woman” in the video above, as well as the interview with Kelly Clarkson discussing the show.
