Tom Hanks Joins Michelle Obama in Voter Registration Campaign

After finishing his run in “Henry IV” for the Shakespeare Center in Los Angeles, Tom Hanks is now using his voice to push citizens nationwide to register to vote.

In a PSA released from the organization When We All Vote, Michelle Obama appears along with co-chairs of the organization Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and others, in order to encourage people to show up for elections.

The stars in the video make it clear that for democracy to function, as many citizens as possible have to show up, not just to presidential elections, but to local and other elections as well.

Obama says, “If we really want our voices to be heard, we need to vote in every election. Not just for president, but for every office: school board, statehouse, Senate, all of them….When we all vote, we determine our future.”

The organization does not encourage viewers to vote for a specific party, just to show up to vote, even though several of its members have traditionally voted Democrat.

Hanks sums up the PSA’s message by stating, “When we all vote, we prove that we are a democracy, with a government of the people, and by the people.”
