Anna Giannotis who has also directed “The Promise of Tomorrow” is producing the series as well. CIRCUMCISED! Is the autobiographical story of a Jewish kid raised in the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, a primarily Muslim country, who emigrates to Israel. In true Israeli fashion, his welcome includes a mandatory circumcision – at the age of 16! Oy vey and OUCH! The pilot episode reveals Gleb Kaminer’s transformation into all of the characters that pervade this Jewish nightmare: the Mohel, a loyal circumcision specialist; Dr. Rubenstein, a jaded and eccentric surgeon; Gleb’s unenthusiastic Dad; an Angry Hospital Worker; a Perky Female Nurse and numerous hospital patients. CIRCUMCISED! a.k.a. A SLICE OF LIFE will make you laugh, cry, cringe, and cheer, possibly all at once.

In “Detroit 187″ fictional documentarians follow and film Detroit homicide police. It’s a funny take on a Detroit homicide squad if they were to have a documentary crew following them around on cases.

Although this is an old movie it could be a could Sunday family activity, especially now only t days after the Epiphany. The most famous epiphany celebrations take place in Tarpon Springs, in the city where this film was filmed.

—GGGGG (Very Greek)
1953 Color 102 minutes

Producer: Twentieth Century-Fox
Director: Robert Webb
Writer: A.I. Bezzerides
Cast: Robert Wager, Terry Moore, Gilbert Roland, Richard Boone Synopsis: Tony Petrakis (Robert Wagner) is a cocky Greek youth living in Tarpon Springs in a stereotypical traditional family who undergoes a manly rite of passage. Tony’s father, Mike Petrakis (Gilbert Roland) is a sponge diver who is having a hard time finding sponges in the area traditionally harvested by Greeks. He decides to make an early morning run to Key West waters that are considered the territory of non-Greek fishermen led by Thomas Rhys (Richard Boone). When the locals discover the presence of Greeks, there is violence and a dramatic face-to-face between the Petrakis and Rhys families. The story takes another turn when Tony becomes romantically interested in Rhy’s beautiful and rebellious daughter Gwyneth (Terry Moore). Terry’s boyfriend (Peter Graves) takes offense. The ensuing fight is partly about sponges, partly about jealousy, and partly about whether Greeks can be considered as equals by native-born Americans. Much of the film is shot on location and explores the skills and dangers involved in sponge diving. Mike is killed diving in dangerous waters. After more violence, Tony and Terry elope. Her father pursues them with a vengeance, but the film ends with the feuding communities coming to terms with one another, mainly due to the attitudes embodied in the younger generation. The Greek characters are portrayed as courageous. The script is by A.I. Bezzerides from his own short story. Bezzerides, son of an Armenian mother and a Greek father, was born in Asia Minor. Rock Hudson, then at the onset of his career, provides a brief narrative introduction in the opening sequence. This early Cinemascope production is noted for its innovative underwater photography (cinematographer Edward Cronjagger got an Oscar nomination for his work). This is one of two films about Greeks made by Twentieth-Century Fox in 1953. Perhaps not coincidently, the studio was then headed at this time by Spyro Skouras.

Synopsis: This biopic explores the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly homosexual politician to be elected to office in San Francisco. Milk was subsequently murdered by a homophobic fellow politician. Early in his career, Milk (Sean Penn) has a political debate with Art Agnos (Jeff Koons). Agnos expresses no animus whatever to Milk’s sexual orientation, and after their debate, he tells Milk that he will never win until he begins to tell people what he is for as fervently as what he is against. Milk will take this advice to heart and make it central to his future (successful) political campaigns. The film never notes that Agnos is Greek, Audiences would only know so because of his name. The real-life Agnos eventually served as mayor of San Francisco (1988-1992).

The movie which deals with the importance of a single vote in a US election is produced by 1821 Pictures, a company owned by Terry Dougas and Paris Kasidokostas.

“Swing Vote” premiered last weekend in theaters. The movie deals with elections and how important a single vote can become under certain circumstances.

Kevin Costner stars as Bud Johnson, an apathetic, beer slinging, lovable loser, who is coasting through a life that has passed him by, except for the one bright spot in his mundane existence, his precocious, over achieving twelve-year old daughter, Molly. She takes care of them both, until one mischievous moment on Election Day, when she accidentally sets off a chain of events which culminates in the presidential election coming down to one vote, her dads.

Suddenly, Bud Johnson, the nobody, becomes the voice for everybody when the world realizes that his vote will be the one that elects the next president. Politicians invade the small town of Texico, New Mexico and its unwitting inhabitants, waging war for Bud’s vote. (nmfilm.com)

The movie is one of the first feature films produced by 1821 Pictures. The company which was previously known as G&M Films belongs to Terry Dougas & Paris Kasidokostas who are also working on several new projects. Some of their movies which are listed as in “post production” on IMDB are “The Box“, “The Side of the Truth” and “True Believer: The Father of Super Heroes“.

You might know Criss Angel as the stunning illusionist, made famous by his A&E Network television show, Criss Angel Mindfreak.

What you might not know is that Criss’s real name is Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, and he is a famous Greek American.

Another thing you might not know is that Criss has been slated to perform with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas this fall. The show, CRISS ANGEL Believe™ , will be an unconventional magic show that combines the distinctive imaginations and performance styles of Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil respectively. If you have ever seen Criss Angel’s mind numbing illusions, or Cirque de Soleil’s unbelievable physical feats, you can safely say that this show is going to be something spectacular.

Before Criss Angel dazzled us with his magical prowess, he was raised in East Meadow, Long Island, New York. His interest in magic was born when he was a child, and his aunt Stella showed him a card trick. He would always ask her how she did it, and she would always tell him. Both of his parents are Greek, and his mother, who has regular appearances on Criss Angel Mindfreak, hails from Mystra, Greece.

He had also taken an early interest in music, and one of his trademarks is his combination of magic with loud, pulsating rock music. “I wanted to combine magic and music in a much grander vision that required a band, larger illusions and more equipment”, he said in an interview.

Now audiences have the opportunity to see what really goes on when preparing for one of Criss’s shows. Preview performances for CRISS ANGEL Believe will begin September 1st and run through to September 11th. During these performances the creative team will still be in the final stages of production, and the audience’s reaction and participation will be integral in determining the outcome of the actual show. These performances might be interrupted to make adjustments as necessary.

CRISS ANGEL Believe will be performed at the Luxor in Vegas on Friday through Tuesday with no shows on Wednesdays or Thursdays.

For more information about Criss Angel, and this promising show, visit his official website at www.crissangel.com.

A prominent feature of "Sex and the City" is the extravagant fashion selections the main characters wear. This is all thanks to Greek stylist and fashion designer Patricia Field.

By Jim Ballas

“Sex and the City: The Movie” ruled at the box office this past weekend, drawing in over $55 million, about $10 million more than the next highest grossing movie, “Indiana Jones.” A prominent feature of the show, and of course the movie, is the extravagant fashion selections the main characters wear. This is all thanks to Greek stylist and fashion designer Patricia Field.
Patricia Field was born to Greek and Armenian parents and raised in New York City. Her professional fashion career took off during the 1960s, when she opened up her first boutique, the House of Field. She became well known on the New York fashion circuit and ventured into television and film design starting in the late 1980s.
Field met Sarah Jessica Parker, the star of “Sex and the City,” on the set of the 1995 film “Miami Rhapsody.” Parker liked Field as the costume designer enough that when “Sex and the City” began, Parker asked for Field to design a few outfits. She later became the show’s costume designer, dressing all of the characters in the newest fashions.
Her work on “Sex and the City” was a great success. In her six years with the show, she was nominated for five Emmy Awards, winning one, and six Costume Designers Guild Awards, winning four.
Since her original run on “Sex and the City,” she has designed for television shows “Hope & Faith,” “Ugly Betty,” and “Cashmere Mafia.” Most notably, Field was the costume designer for the trend-setting movie “The Devil Wears Prada,” which earned her an Academy Award Nomination for best costume design. She is currently working on “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” a film starring Isla Fisher, due out in February 2009.
Throughout all her movie and television success, Field still maintains her fashion line, named after her original boutique, “The House of Field.” She sells these and other designs at her New York boutique, appropriately named Patricia Field, located at 302 Bowery.
Field has been designing for many years, and her continuing success has made her a household name in the fashion world. To see more of Patricia Field’s work, check out “Sex and the City: The Movie,” now in theatres or take a look at her boutique at www.patriciafield.com.

Who was Avrakotos in real life?

According to Wikipedia “Gust L. Avrakotos December 1 was a Greek-American case officer and division chief for the United States Central Intelligence Agency. Avrakotos is best known for the massive arming of ‘s mujahideen in the 1980s in the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Avrakotos’s partnership with Charlie Wilson in this operation was chronicled in the book Charlie Wilson’s War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History, by George Crile III, and the film Charlie Wilson’s War, released December 21.

Avrakotos was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania the son of a Greek American soft drink manufacturer. He briefly worked at Jones and Laughlin Steel mill in Aliquippa before graduating valedictorian from Aliquippa High School in 1955. Avrakotos attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated summa cum laude and later attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, which is now a part of Carnegie Mellon University. He joined the CIA after college and his assignments included an anti-terrorist mission in Greece and duty in the CIA’s Langley, Virginia headquarters. Avrakotos retired from the CIA in 1989, then worked for TRW in Rome and for News Corp., for whom he began a business intelligence newsletter, working in Rome and McLean, Virginia.
