Angie Harmon debuted her latest role on TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” this last Monday. The premier attracted more than 7 million viewers making it the most-watched ad-supported cable show to date. The second episode brought in a over 5 million viewers as well, which has people talking about this new show as the next big hit.
Entertainment Weekly reviewed the show recently on their online site EW.com by reviewer Ken Tucker who stated, “With The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles, you’re in the company of smart women who know how to laugh at themselves and close cases.” The overall review appeared to be positive, depending on how the season develops. So far, Harmon appears to have won over her audience with both talent and charisma.
This record-breaking show staring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander is based on the crime novels of author Tess Garritsen. Harmon plays a detective and Alexander takes on the role as medical examiner. Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) is a career-driven Boston homicide detective who prides herself on being gutsy and aggressive,while Maura Isles (Alexander) is the feminine, cool-headed medical examiner that works with Rizzoli to solve homicide crimes.
It may be too early to call, but Rizzoli & Isles, despite it’s name, looks like a hit. It retained nearly all of the audience from the popular television show, The Closer during its premiere. This may be a very positive move for model gone actress Angie Harmon. It will be interesting to see how the season develops and if it can continue to retain the large audience the premier captured.
