Maria Menounos Talks Exclusively About Her New Book

By Maria A. Karamitsos

Maria Menounos, actress, TV host, reporter, producer and more, now adds another title to her resume – author. On the eve of the release of her first book, The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life, we had the opportunity to chat with Maria.

Where did the idea for the book come from?

I have so many girls and women ask me questions from how I got to where I am and how I manage to do so many things in a day, to where I shop for bargains, and how they can attain red carpet hair and styles – and more – especially when they don’t  have a lot of money.

How long did it take to write?

About two years. If you read the book, you’ll see I’ve covered just about every topic, which is why it took so long.

Why did you write it?

I see too many women struggle in their daily lives. They struggle to get ahead, to manage their time and money, their relationships, and to look and feel their best. It bothers me. I struggled too when I was younger and so did my mom. I hate seeing anyone struggle, especially when they don’t have to. I was blessed to have a wise mom and to be exposed to the world’s greatest experts from the “Today Show.” So I’ve gained the knowledge and I want to share it. I believe in my heart of hearts that the book will help every girl out there and I hope I’m right.

Who is “EveryGirl”?

This book is for all women, from 16 years old to 70. They all can get something out of this book. A big part of the book is to always be growing and improving. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. This book transcends beauty, it’s about health, mental health and success, things we all strive for.

Did any of these tips come from your mother or yiayia?

Many of them came from my mother. She was always open to learning new things and never letting life get her down. I’m still amazed at what she learns and adapts to each day. She gets online and knows how to text now and use all the latest tech gadgets, too.

Share some advice.

Remain in ‘Kaizen’. This is a Japanese philosophy of keeping your mind in a state of continuous improvement. Always ask yourself, and be open to, how things in your life could be done or executed better.

When you’re young, hang out with old people. This will make you wise beyond your years. When you’re old, hang out with young people. This will keep you fresh and young at heart. When you’re middle-aged, do both and you’ll get both wisdom and youth.

Organization is the key to happiness. Get organized and see how much your happiness is bolstered. The book shows you how to get organized from top to bottom.

If there is one lesson people should take away from your book, what would it be?

To be positive and open minded with people and in life. It’s half the battle.

You’re on a book tour.

Starting April 10 in Minneapolis, I’ll be in 12 cities promoting the book, through June 15.

What’s going on with Bing?

I’ve teamed up with Bing, to be the exclusive online destination for “EveryGirl Video Tips of the Day presented by Bing.” There are more than 40 videos featuring my secrets and tips on everything from travel, health and style, to career, fitness and organization.

When will the book be out?

April 12.
