Jim Gianopulos Wins Gabby Award

Chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Jim Gianopulos won a GABBY Award for Business and entrepreneurism. The historic event took place on Ellis Island in New York on June 4th. Fashion designer John Varvatos and Chiarman of JPMorgan, Jamie Dimon, were also nominated in the same category.

The award was presented to Jim Gianopulos by financial star Thomas Belesis, CEO of John Thomas Financial. Belesis has also been a familiar face in Hollywood since he played himself in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money never sleeps.

James N. Gianopulos has served as Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment since July 2000. In February 2006, he was given the additional title of Chief Executive Officer and in March 2009, he was promoted to oversee all of News Corporation’s Los Angeles-based creative production divisions, including the film and television studios.

Together with his co-Chairman, Tom Rothman, Mr. Gianopulos manages all feature film and television production and marketing, as well as global distribution through all windows and platforms spanning the theatrical, broadcast, cable, home entertainment, digital and mobile markets. He has been involved in the evolution of entertainment and new technologies for more than 25 years, and is considered a leading strategist in the film and media industry.

During his tenure, the studio has released a broad range of successful films including the recent blockbuster Avatar, which has earned more than $2 billion worldwide, breaking both domestic and international box office records to become the highest grossing film of all time. Mr. Gianopulos has had the unique honor of having been involved in the success of the 2 biggest films in history, Titanic and Avatar.

Prior to his current post, Mr. Gianopulos was President of Twentieth Century Fox International, a position he held since 1994. Twentieth Century Fox is one of the leading international distribution operations in the world. Mr. Gianopulos oversaw all international marketing and distribution of theatrical releases, the Home Entertainment division, as well as financing, acquisitions and co-productions of films for Fox throughout the world. Among the many notable successes during Mr. Gianopulos’ tenure at Fox International are the Oscar winners Titanic and Braveheart, in addition to the achievement of simultaneously having four of the five top grossing pictures of all-time internationally: Titanic, Star Wars, Independence Day and Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.

Mr. Gianopulos is a Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, a member of the Board of the Motion Picture & Television Fund, and a trustee of the American Film Institute. He is involved in a number of civic and philanthropic activities including serving on the National Entertainment Advisory Council for the Anti-Defamation League and The Brady Center. He also has served on Honorary Committees for The Fulfillment Fund, The City of Hope and the Multiple Sclerosis Society for which he was the 2001 honoree, The Help Group, which honored him with its Humanitarian Award in 2005, the Alliance for Lupus Research and others.

Mr. Gianopulos attended Boston University (BA, 1973), the Fordham School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1976) and the LLM program at the New York University School of Law. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Ann and their three daughters.
