Hugh Grant: “I Love Greeks, but I Hate Their…Coffee”

“I first came to Greece when I was very young”, Hugh Grant admits. “I had just finished school, 18 years old, and had bought a really cheap holiday package. I still remember the price, even if you think that’s impossible. It cost only 85 Pounds. As soon as I stepped my foot in your country I realized that I was going to love this place, since I look very much alike to Greeks”, Hugh Grant confesses.

During an interview for the newspaper “Proto Thema”, the popular actor says that he also loves Greek souvlaki with pita, but he hates Greek coffee because it’s too hard for him to digest.

Hugh Grant also commented on the Greek mentality saying that, “You are a charismatic people with a deep-rooted history, a great culture and an outgoing lifestyle even in bad times. I’m impressed that your cafés are always full of people and that your night life starts at eleven o’ clock. You are modern Zorbases even if you are going through a tough period. We – your admirers – believe that passing through Symplegades will only make you stronger.”

Responding to the question “What do you have to say to the Greek women who adore you?”, Hugh Grant called his sense of humour up and answered, “I’m sorry ladies, I just can’t help it”.
