Greek-Danish Director’s Film, ‘A Royal Affair,’ Vying for Academy Award

_77858_MediumGreek-Danish director and writer Nikolaj Arcel is up for an Academy Award this year for his latest film, “A Royal Affair.”

A historical drama that stars Mads Mikkelsen, Alicia Vikander and Mikkel Følsgaard, the plot centers around the romance between the Queen and the royal physician in the 18th century during the rule of King Christian VII of Denmark.

Representing Denmark for the Best Foreign Language award, “A Royal Affair” was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the same category but lost out to the French drama “Amour.”

Arcel most notably co-wrote the Danish version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” He made his feature directorial debut in 2004. “A Royal Affair” is his fourth film as a director.
