Christie Donates Digital Cinema Projector to Saint Sophia Cathedral

St.-SophiaChristie, a top visual technology company, has donated a first-rate digital cinema projector to the new Gianopulos Family Theater, which is located in the Wilson-Hanks Family Cultural Center at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles.

Christie’s Managed Services team worked with audio-visual innovator BLACKSTAR Engineering to install the Christie Solaria Series projector and other theater equipment, transforming a basketball court by day into a fully professional movie theater by night. An event to unveil the new addition to the theater took place Sunday, March 17. “Life of Pi” was presented in 3D following the ceremony.

“Christie is pleased to provide a truly meaningful gift that will assist the church in serving the community,” said Jack Kline, president and COO of Christie. “Movies offer a great medium for telling stories, for sharing education, culture and history, and of course for entertaining. The Christie projector at the Wilson-Hanks Family Cultural Center is an integral part of the church, and we feel it serves an important function because movies are also a great way to bring a community together under one roof to share in a magical experience.”

The movie theater was added to the Cathedral’s 53,000 square foot space to host community events, pre-release screenings, and various third-party bookings. Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral is located at 1324 S Normandie Ave., Los Angeles, CA.
