Actress and screenwriter Zoe Kazan stars in a new film, “The Pretty One,” which had its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 20.
Just off the heels of the critically acclaimed “Ruby Sparks,” Kazan, the granddaughter of legendary Greek-American filmmaker Elia Kazan, plays identical twins in “The Pretty One.” The film centers on sisters Audrey and Laurel; Audrey has all of the qualities Laurel wishes she possessed: confidence, style, independence. Alternately, Laurel, sweet but painfully awkward, feels stuck in her life, still living at home with their father and obsessed with the boy next door, for whom she used to babysit. When the sisters reunite for their birthday, tragedy strikes and a fateful mix-up leaves Laurel faced with an opportunity to reinvent herself—and her life — as her beloved sibling.
“The Pretty One” is directed and written by Jenée LaMarque, and also stars Jake Johnson, John Carroll Lynch, Shae D’lyn, Frankie Shaw and Ron Livingston. The Tribeca Film Festival began April 17 and runs through April 28.
