Hercules the beloved hero of Greek mythology will be the subject of two Hollywood films to be released in 2014. These won’t be the only movies influenced by Greece or starring Greeks.

The prequel of the movie “300” concerning the battle of the Greeks against the Persians, in Artemisium, is expected to become a blockbuster, while Patricia Highsmith’s “The two faces of January,” filmed in Athens and Crete is expected to be highly popular among cinephiles.

“The two faces of January”: The thriller was filmed in Athens and Crete and is based on the homonymous novel by Patricia Highsmith. An American couple and a young student are involved in a mysterious crime of a policeman committed in Knossos.

“Promachos”: The name of the film comes from the name of the giant statue of the protector of Athens, Athena.  The story is about a group of Greek lawyers that start legal proceedings for the return of the Parthenon Marbles. The filming takes place in various parts of Athens.

“Gods Behaving Badly”: Zeus, Artemis, Aphrodite and other gods leave Olympus and move to New York, where, due to financial difficulties are forced to live together in an apartment. The movie is a parody based on the novel by Marie Phillips.

“Squirrels to the Νuts”: The new movie starring Greek-American actress Jennifer Aniston, in which she is reportedly to appear topless!

“Birdman”: This movie is about a young actor who is trying to be a Hollywood star. Greek-American Zack Galifianakis will impersonate the producer who will help the young man make his dream come true.

“The Helicopter mom”: In the new film by Nia Vardalos, the Greek-American movie star plays the role of an annoying mom.

  1. Looking forward to “The two faces of January”. I think Athens should be a more popular filming site, it is a perfect city to shoot a thriller or an action movie.
