Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Honored with Humanitarian Award

Ted Sarandos

Chief Content Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, was honored in Beverly Hills Tuesday night by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The Greek-American was presented with the Humanitarian Award for his support of the center and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

The event, which raised more than 1.6 million dollars for the center and the Museum of Tolerance, featured many of Hollywood’s elite, including last year’s Humanitarian Award recipient, Greek-American Jim Gianopulos, as well as Jeffrey Katzenberg, Ron Meyer, Haim Saban and Harvey Weinstein.

While introducing Sarandos, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer and a Co-Founder and Director of DreamWorks Animation SKG, pointed out, “It’s a rather unique tradition that we’re seeing here at the Simon Wiesenthal Center,” saying, “this is the second year in a row that the Jews are honoring a Greek. There are actually many, many reasons why tonight’s honoree is deserving of this recognition.”

“When I look at the next generation of leaders, those that I admire, Ted is at the very top of that list,” Katzenberg added.

Sarandos has led content acquisition for Netflix since 2000. With more than 20 years of experience in home entertainment, Ted is recognized in the industry as an innovator in film acquisition and distribution. Before Netflix, he was an executive at video distributor ETD and Video City/West Coast Video. He serves on the Film Advisory Board for the Tribeca and Los Angeles Film Festival, the retail advisory board for the Digital Entertainment Group and is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. Sarandos is married to U.S. Ambassador Nicole Avant and has two children.
