Greek-Filipino Dave Batista (Bautista) speaks exclusively to Greek Reporter about his Greek heritage from the red carpet of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” world premiere in Hollywood, CA.

“I wish I had been a part of ‘Hercules,'” said the Greek-Filipino wrestler-turned-actor who expressed his interest in getting roles in productions with Greek themes.

“Even a romantic comedy based in Greece, or ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding,’ I would love to do it,” admitted the actor, whose maternal ancestors are from Greece but he never had the opportunity to visit the country.

“I hope one day I will be able to visit Greece and explore the country, and also take my fiancee there.”

Noting that he has expressed his feelings towards his Filipino background more than his Greek heritage, the actor said, “I am always proud to say I am half-Greek, I think that the older I get, the more Greek I look.”

Batista plays the role of Drax the Destroyer in the Disney/Marvel Studios-produced action/adventure sci-fi. Based on the Marvel comic, “Guardians of the Galaxy” revolves around a diverse team of aliens who form a squad capable of defeating cosmic threats. Drax the Destroyer was a human who was killed and resurrected with a mission: to kill super villain Thanos. The character of Thanos is based on Greek mythology, deriving from “Thanatos,” the personification of death and mortality.
