Richie Sambora recently told ABC Radio that he is in the middle of recording a new duet album with his girlfriend, Greek-Australian guitarist Orianthi.
When talking about the style of the album, Sambora said “It’s not what people are gonna expect. I think they’re gonna expect this, like, giant guitar record, which [it’s] a little bit of that but, no, it’s just great songs and her and I singing together…So, it’s kind of like Sonny & Cher on steroids.”
The couple has been dating for almost two years now, and appears to be going strong with this new collaboration.
As the former lead guitarist of Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora has plenty of experience in the music world, and Orianthi is considered one of the best female guitarists on the planet, so this new album will be a much anticipated collaboration between two very successful rock stars. As Sambora said, their “voices are very sympathetic to each other, and it’s really powerful….It’s better than I thought it was gonna be and I thought it was gonna really good.”
The couple plan for an album release date and tour after the first month of 2016, and will have plenty of famous guest musicians such as Rolling Stones touring bassist Darryl Jones, Living Colour drummer Will Calhoun, and possibly Stevie Wonder and Buddy Guy contributing their talents to the album.
