The stars of the highly anticipated sequel to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, recently had an on-set visit from “The Today Show” where they answered questions about the upcoming movie in front of millions of viewers.
Nia Vardalos first explained the gap in years between the first movie and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2”. Since she had ended the first movie by showing her and Corbett as parents, she knew she would have to write that storyline into the sequel.
According to Nia, she likes to write only from a place of experience, so she didn’t feel she could do justice to a “mom” storyline if she wasn’t a mother herself.
After Vardalos adopted her daughter in 2008 with fellow actor Ian Gomez, that’s when the ideas for the new movie started coming to her.
In response to whether she has felt any pressure for the sequel to live up to the laughter of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, Nia Vardalos laughed and responded “I consider myself a fearless idiot. I like to just jump in. If you try to be authentic, you’re already successful.”
