We covered John Stamos’ DUI arrest and subsequent stint in rehab earlier this year, but the Greek-American actor has only recently opened up about what led him to drive under the influence that night and then seek treatment.
The star gave a revealing interview in “Details” magazine about his personal pain and his mother’s death.
“I’ve had a rough year with my mom dying, so it all came to a head, and it was a turning point. You either continue on that path – and some of it’s fun, but a lot of it’s not – or there’s this other thing, this golden opportunity sitting there with all this work and all this goodwill that you have going for you. That’s the key.”
John Stamos also said that part of the reason for his downward spiral was his lack of work and resulting downtime during the last few years. Besides guest starring on a few episodes and filming some commercials, the actor hadn’t worked much in Hollywood.
Of course, that all changed this year as Stamos is now headlining the new FOX series “Grandfathered” in addition to working on the Netflix “Full House” sequel, “Fuller House”.
It does seem that the actor has finally turned his year around for the better, as he stated himself in the interview: “I’m trying. I swear to God I’m trying….I feel better than I’ve felt in a decade, and I hope people see that. That’s what I want them to see.”
“Grandfathered”, with John Stamos in the lead role, premieres on FOX on September 29th, 8/7 PM central.
