Tina Fey Confirms ‘Mean Girls’ Musical is in the Works

Tina Fey has confirmed that a musical adaptation of the movie that put her at the top of Hollywood after her SNL career, “Mean Girls”, is definitely in the works!

Fey confirmed the long-held rumor on “Watch What Happens Live!” with Andy Cohen. She also said that the musical will be produced with her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, and will feature more classic, Broadway-style music than pop songs.

The original film, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, was a cult hit teen comedy. It follows Lindsay Lohan as Cady, the new girl in school, who in her attempt to fit in and make friends ends up attracting the attention of the head mean girl Regina, played by McAdams. Cady hangs out with the “popular group” as a joke in the beginning, but ends up getting so drawn into them that she loses herself, before eventually bringing the group down.

Although Tina Fey had a supporting role in the original movie as Cady’s smart and concerned math teacher, she will not be reprising her role in the musical, nor will she be reaching out to the original cast to take part in the musical.

As for the release date, that is unfortunately still unknown. Here’s hoping Tina Fey gets her “Mean Girls” musical up and running soon!
