Elina Psykou made her critically acclaimed directorial debut with “The Eternal Return of Antonis Paraskevas”, and is now taking film festivals by storm again with her second feature, “Son of Sofia”, which will be screened at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
The drama is about an 11 year old named Misha, who arrives in Athens from Russia to spend time with his mother, Sofia, who he hasn’t seen in a long time. Unbeknownst to Misha, he also finds a father waiting for him in Greece, with whom Misha has a rocky relationship from the start.
Set in the summer of 2004 against the backdrop of the Greek Olympics, the story explores Misha’s transformation and the difficulties of creating a new identity for himself within a new country and a new kind of family.
