George Pelecanos’ ‘The Deuce’ To Premiere on HBO

Author and film and TV producer George Pelecanos has a new series coming out called “The Deuce”, a crime thriller set to premiere on HBO in the fall.

Pelecanos co-created the series along with police reporter and author David Simon, and will also be executive producing alongside star James Franco, Richard Price, and Michelle MacLaren.

“The Deuce” stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Emily Meade, and Anwan Glover, and centers on the criminal underworld as well as the rising porn industry in Times Square in the 70s. In addition to action and comedic elements, the show will also highlight some important issues of the time including prostitution, the spread of the drug epidemic and the related rise in HIV.

Main characters, twins Vincent and Frankie Martino (Franco), become fronts for the mob in central New York, and “Candy” (Gyllenhaal) turns from sex work to the rising porn industry. Not much is yet known about the characters’ arcs and stories, but the full trailer was just released, and you can watch it above. “The Deuce” is slated to premiere on HBO on September 10, 2017, so tune it to see what happens.

Pelecanos has previously written over 20 books of detective fiction, and worked behind the scenes on the critically acclaimed crime thriller “The Wire”.
