Alexander Payne Walks Red Carpet in Omaha for ‘Downsizing’ Premiere

Alexander Payne, the famously proud native of Omaha, Nebraska, decided to return to his hometown for the red carpet premiere of “Downsizing” at the Dundee Theater.

The premiere took place on Friday, December 15, at the newly renovated theater venue. Payne arrived accompanied by Hong Chau, who plays the character of Ngoc in the film and has received plenty of attention for her stellar acting in the movie; she is a favorite to be nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar this year.

Asked about how he felt to be back in his hometown for his film premiere, Payne said, “I had the same feeling back in 1996 when ‘Citizen Ruth’ played here.  Not with a splashy event like this. But it feels great. I mean, what better feeling could there be? To be sharing something you created in the town you love, and with people you love.”

Payne also made the somewhat surprising announcement that he will be moving back to Omaha, and using it as his base while he continues to make movies.

“Downsizing”, which stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, and Neil Patrick Harris, will premiere in theaters throughout the US on December 22, 2017.
