U.S. celebrity gossip site TMZ.com is reporting My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Lainie Kazan will avoid jail after an arrest for alleged shoplifting by taking part in a neighborhood justice program.
Citing the LA City Attorney, TMZ on Saturday claimed New York-born Kazan — who played Maria Portokalos, mother of the 2002 hit film’s struggling Greek-American bride — will not have to attend court or plead guilty.
Kazan had been arrested for petty theft shortly before Christmas last year. Her lawyer claimed it was a misunderstanding over a failure to pay for goods.
