Paramount just signed a deal with SEGA to bring their iconic “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise to the big screen.

Jim Gianopulos, who was hired as Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures just last year, said, “We are incredibly excited to work with SEGA to bring this iconic property and character to audiences around the world….We look forward to our partnership on this great venture.”

In his last year at Paramount, Gianopulos has been inking deals with several high profile companies to get the studio back on top. Under his guidance, Paramount also signed a five year deal with Hasbro.

Paramount and SEGA plan to including both live action and CG animation in the feature film. High-profile industry names have signed on to help helm the project. They include producer Neal H. Moritz (who did the “Fast and Furious” series), director Jeff Fowler (Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Short), and executive producer Tim Miller (director of “Deadpool”).
