A company called ”Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy” (HICD) is being accused by the famous actor Tom Hanks of fraud as it used his name to create an event for October 7th in Athens, selling tickets under the promise that Tom Hanks would be there.
The event was supposed to honor the American actor who has close ties with Greece as his wife has Greek descent.
The company is real as it appears to have offices in the Greek capital of Athens but Wilson said that Hanks never knew anything about or signed or agreed to anything with this company.
“Stop HICD from misrepresenting. This is fraud…Tom Hanks isn’t appearing at this or any events in Greece. (He) Was never asked,” Wilson tweeted.
Why you would try to discredit us when we have signed a contract with Tom Hanks? This is immoral, be aware of your responsabilities.

The Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy on the other hand claims that they have contracts signed by Tom Hanks, something that he strongly denies.
To my friends in Greece. Someone is claiming that I am appearing at an event in Athens which is not and has never been true. Tickets are being sold with the promise of my presence.

The event would supposedly be held in Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
“We were surprised to read in recent press article and posts, as well as via Ms. Rita Wilson’s tweet, about an upcoming award ceremony honoring actor Tom Hanks that is allegedly being organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. We would like to refute categorically this information which clearly falls into the category of fake news,” SNFCC said in a post on its Facebook page.
