“Hotel Mumbai,” a film which is already in limited release and due to be released widely throughout the US on March 29, was directed by Greek-Australian Anthony Maras.

The film is based on the real-life terrorist attack which occurred in the prestigious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai in 2008, though it is billed mostly as an action thriller.

Maras co-wrote the film with John Collee and is also an executive producer on the project. Though he has previously directed a few critically-acclaimed shorts, this is his feature length film debut. In a random piece of Greek trivia, Maras is also listed online as the cousin of famous Greek singer Eleftheria Arvanitaki.

“Hotel Mumbai” stars Hollywood A-listers Dev Patel and Armie Hammer. It was filmed in Australia and India.

Initial reviews have emphasized the realism of the film. Reviewers also pointed out that some of the actual dialogue in the movie was taken verbatim from intercepted cell phone calls made during the actual terrorist attack in Mumbai.
