Greek designer Mary Katrantzou will debut her new line of swimwear, Mary Mare, as part of her main collection in 2020.
Katrantzou wanted to make sure the swimwear catered to women of all sizes. The initial collection will have ready-wear pieces up to U.K. size 24 (U.S. size 20). In addition to the designer’s characteristic bold prints, the swimsuits are made of all-natural fabrics and have easy, flattering silhouettes that will look good on a wide range of body types.
The London-based designer’s collections have been featured in Fashion Weeks around the world for years. Her stunning formalwear has been seen on red carpets gracing the likes of Cate Blanchett and other A-list fashion icons, and even on First Lady Melania Trump.
However, this is Katrantzou’s first foray into swimwear. The collection will also include beach totes, sun hats, and cover-ups.
As the designer herself said in an interview with WWD, “prints and colors are so connected to being by the beach and traveling and being on holiday. I cannot believe I have not done a swim collection in 10 years”.
The swimwear line will be launched in April of 2020, just before the summer season enters full swing. Some of the prints Katrantzou provided a sneak peek at on her Instagram include patterns of postcards from Italy, Greece, and France.
