The Producers Guild of America announced on October 25 that it will bestow its most prestigious honor, the Milestone Award, on Netflix chief Ted Sarandos on January 18, 2020.
Greek-American Sarandos has always been considered one of the most innovative leaders in the industry; under his guidance, Netflix has grown into an enormous international brand.
The streaming service industry is currently heading into unknown territory. In addition to other top streaming services like Hulu and Amazon, there are plenty of up and comers looking to compete with Netflix, such as Disney and Apple.
However, Netflix still remains at the top of the pack. Starting with “House of Cards” in 2013, Netflix has been increasing its production of original content year after year, in more and more countries around the world.
Producers Guild Presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher highlighted Sarandos’ undeniable role in creating the new landscape of streaming. According to them, Netflix “has forever left its mark on Hollywood.”
In the past, the Milestone Award has been given to such Hollywood luminaries as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, and Disney executive Bob Iger.
