‘Variety’ Editor Peter Caranicas to Receive First HPA Legacy Award

The managing editor of “Variety” features, Greek-American Peter Caranicas, will receive the first HPA Legacy Award from the Hollywood Professional Association.

Though the HPA Awards have been around for a long time, this is the first time a Legacy Award will be presented.

Caranicas is more than deserving of the honor, thanks to all the work he has contributed to “Variety” and the significant editorial franchises he has created. He has worked as an editor in the industry in general for over 40 years.

Peter joined “Variety” in 2008 as the features managing editor. Over the last 11 years, he has developed franchises that the whole Hollywood industry now pays attention to and follows closely.

Those features include Dealmakers Impact Report, Hollywood’s New Leaders, Legal Impact Report and Business Managers Elite.

HPA Awards committee chair Christine Purse said of Caranicas, “he has been a touchstone for a long time, a trusted source of information, friendship, and honest opinions, as well as a great writer and fantastic moderator. His knowledge, generosity and kindness are an incredible, and rare, combination.”

The 2019 HPA Awards will take place on November 21 at the 14th annual HPA Awards. The awards show will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
