Tina Fey will be hosting a virtual telethon chock full of A-list names, titled “Rise Up New York!” in order to support New Yorkers needing financial relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The telethon will include an appearance by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has been prominent in the national news during the COVID crisis. Entertainers featured in the telethon include famous New York residents such as Robert DeNiro, Spike Lee, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
In addition to the actors appearing on the show, performances by Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, and Mariah Carey will bring some chart-topping musical talent to the charitable event.
New Yorkers have been especially hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, in part due to New York’s status as an international hub and a large, densely populated city. It has been the epicenter of the crisis in the US for weeks now, with New York State suffering 60% of all the Covid-19 deaths in the country.
Money donated via the “Rise Up New York!” event will go to a wide range of services, including food, shelter, health and mental health, legal, and educational services to help New Yorkers trying to make ends meet and stay afloat during the crisis.
The Anti-poverty organization “Robin Hood” is presenting “Rise Up New York!” in conjunction with iHeartMedia. Alex Coletti Productions is helping produce the event as well.
Fey will host the charitable one-hour event on Monday, May 11, at 7 PM ET on CNBC. The telethon will also be streaming on iHeartMedia, SiriusXM, and Entercom radio stations throughout the US. If you can, tune in and help out!
