The World War II film “Greyhound”, which was written by and stars Tom Hanks, will be premiering on Apple TV+ on July 10.

The movie takes place in 1942, shortly before the US entered World War II on the side of the Allies.

Hanks plays Commander Ernest Krause, who is entrusted with the job of protecting 37 Allied ships while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Though the film isn’t based directly on a true story, it is inspired by the events of the Battle of the Atlantic.

“Greyhound” itself is based on a novel by C.S. Forester titled “The Good Shepherd”.

Due to the current pandemic, many films which were originally slated for a theatrical release have been moved to streaming platforms. Apple TV+ decided to acquire “Greyhound” back in May.

The film also stars Elizabeth Shue from “CSI” and Stephen Graham; it is directed by Aaron Schneider.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with and subsequently recovered from COVID-19 early on in the pandemic this past Spring. They are now donating their antibody-filled blood plasma to help other COVID sufferers.
